“I'm making a new song for Hatsune Miku 10th anniversary. This is a party tune which is combined 1990's techno music and Japanese traditional music. Miku sings and KAITO raps like human!! Please enjoy!!”
—Mitchie M (YouTube)
“For the 10th anniversary of Hatsune Miku, I'm making a new song for everyone. Featuring the bubble economy period of Edo period as the stage, and "Juliana's Tokyo", a symbol of the bubble economy during the Heisei period as the dance music. There is a KAITO RAP part in it, I hope everyone will enjoy.”
—Mitchie M (Bilibili)
"Ohedo Julia-Night" is an original song by Mitchie M featuring Hatsune Miku and KAITO. It was created for Miku's 10th anniversary and is featured on the commemorative album, Re:Start.
This song is a heavy blend between the colors of the 1990's Heisei period and 1690's Edo period of Japan. The duo Miku and KAITO are depicted to travel back to the 1690's and party at the "Juliana's Edo" discotheque (a parody of the 1990's "Juliana's Tokyo").
This song entered the Hall of Fame and exceeded 10 million views on YouTube. Hence, this is one of Mitchie-M's most notable songs. It is also Miku and KAITO's most famous duet along with TONDEMO-WONDERZ.

Yo! Hatsune-Ya!
One, Two, One Two Three Yo!
Hey Mr., break it down now
Gather around y’all, the bubble world
Do the shopping spree, no buts, guys
For limited time, party time
With the konchiki beat, the Ōedo 1690’s
Gonna party tonight, go! to the dancefloor
Time is Genroku, the bubbly world
Gonna spend the money like water
Feeling high of upturn,
raving in shiba-no-ura disco (kappore kappore)
Partying all-night,
ah, forgive us for partying with style
Ohedo Julia night
the legendary dance site
Queen of the night,
the instinct goes bloom (choinasasa),
scattered by sunrise (hey! chiruchirurum)
Ohedo Julia night (DJ)
T99 rocking the floor (Anastasia)
Dance like in your dreams (come on)
put the misery behind the sweat
Leaving the VIP with all the ladies
Towards the podium with all the desires
Glossy and beautiful clothes
I am hyper disco queen like a diamond (kappore kappore)
A bit extreme but hey police,
Let us go with style
(kyaa!)
(You are under arrest!)
Ohedo Julia night
lamplight shines through the era
Sparkling and shining
beauty (choinasasa),
fades away in the dark (tamaya!)
Ohedo Julia night (DJ)
TR-909 on the drums (not 808)
Gonna shake the fans of feathers (oh yeah),
getting help from heavenly wind
"Ohedo!"
"GO!GO!GO!GO!..."
"Here we go!"
Special show in the witching hour
Basho Matsuo on the guest
Walking the narrow road to the deep
First class haiku poet
It’s just a gossip he is ninja
5-7-5 one haiku right now!
Bodycon girls on the summer lawn, all in the dream
Ohedo Julia night
the legendary dance site
Queen of the night
the instinct goes bloom (soiya! soiya! souya!)
scattered by sunrise (hey welcome!)
Ohedo Julia night (DJ)
T99 rocking the floor (Anastasia)
Dance like in your dreams
put the misery behind the sweat
"Our apologies"
Trivia[]
- ↑ Edo (江戸) is the former name of Tokyo during the Edo period. 大江戸 means "Great Edo"
- ↑ Juliana (ジュリアナ) refers to Juliana's Tokyo, a famous Japanese discotheque operated around the end of the famed Japanese bubble economy period.
- ↑ As shown in the PV, the period of 1990's was changed to the 1690's. This is for the reason that the Edo period existed during the 1690's, whereas the Juliana's Tokyo operated during the 1990's.
- ↑ Refers to the Genroku era, which also experienced a bubble economy burst.
- ↑ Several dog-lookalike animals appear in the PV in this line. They represent Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, who earned the nickname "the dog shōgun". Tsunayoshi is known for instituting animal protection laws, particularly for dogs.
- ↑ Refers to the Shibaura (芝浦, Grass Shore) district of Tokyo, where the Juliana's Tokyo located. The name derives from "Shiba-no-ura", which was originally meant to depict the Tokyo Bay around Shiba. "Shiba 芝" means "a grassy area"; this is reflected in the PV with the turf illustrated from the outside of the discotheque.
- ↑ The rave music genre is changed to "麗舞" in the song.
- ↑ In the PV during this scene, the sign hung in front of the disco says "寿利穴江戸", which means "Juliana's Edo", paralleling the 1990's "Juliana's Tokyo".
- ↑ 9.0 9.1 Refers to the Belgian electronic music group T99, whose song "Anasthasia" was among their best known works.
- ↑ This scene in the PV is a parody of Hishikawa Moronobu's ukiyo-e painting Beauty Looking Back (見返り美人図).
- ↑ This scene in the PV is a parody of Saturday Night Fever's theatrical release poster.
- ↑ A reference to the people who wore Bodycon dresses and went clubbing in Juliana's Tokyo. In the PV, Miku is depicted to wear a bodycon kimono.
- ↑ Phrase used by police officers during the Edo period, which means the Shogunate wants the person to be captured. The lyrics also refer to the polices' guidance as the scene at Juliana's Tokyo was publicly obscene.
- ↑ "TR-909" refers to the Roland TR-909 drum machine. The techno instrumental played at the Juliana's Tokyo was mostly produce by this machine. Its predecessor, the Roland TR-808 machine (八百屋, yaoya) also means "greengrocer" in Japanese, hence the PV's depiction.
- ↑ This type of fan is commonly called the Juli-sen (ジュリ扇). At Juliana's Tokyo, it was common to dance with this feathered fan.
- ↑ Parody of the famous Wind God and Thunder God Byōbu (風神雷神図屏風)
- ↑ Refers to Matsuo Bashō - a famous haiku poet who was active in the Genroku era.
- ↑ Refers to Matsuo Bashō's major work of haibun 奥の細道 (Oku no Hosomichi, The Narrow Road to the Deep North).
- ↑ Parts of this theory was based on his work "Oku no Hosomichi".
It is said that his journey was not to seek poetic inspiration, but a chance to secretly spy on the economic situation of Sendai Date Domain, who was in charged of fixing the Nikkō Tōshō-gū shrine at the time.
Moreover, the journey on which Matsuo Bashō wrote "Oku no Hosomichi" was 2,400km in total, and was completed in 150 days. This means he was averaging 50km per day, although the poet was 45 years old at the time. Questions are also raised as to why he could travel freely, for there were many checkpoints and post towns along all the major roadways.
This theory, however, cannot be proven if one supports this idea from his descent or physical ability, making it "just a gossip". - ↑ Traditional haiku was often written in the form of 5-7-5 on pattern.
- ↑ Parody of the Haiku 夏草 (Summer Grass) penned by Matsuo Bashō about Hiraizumi; this haiku was also featured in Bashō's "Oku no Hosomichi". In the original haiku, the poet wrote:
夏草や 兵どもが 夢の跡
However, in KAITO's poem, 草 (grass) was changed to 芝 (turf, lawn), and 兵 (soldier) became ボデコン (bodycon girl).
(Summer grass — All that remains — Of warriors' dreams)
芝 (shiba) represents the Shiba-no-ura from previous.
